Wacom Cintiq!

I just hooked my Wacom Tablet...althoouuughhh....I apparently CAN'T have a REGULAR monitor AND te tablet. Well, not unless I buy ANOTHER adapter to have both...So THAT'S WHAT I'LL DO tomorrrow! in the meantime, my tablet is my primary monitor, and I have to type then look down at my lap, *LOL* it has a stand, so I GUESS I could use it...*LOL* ANYWAYS here is a test drawing on the tablet....

OK! Got SOMETHING at least...

Ok, I got a little something. I am adding a well-known character to the "Draw a Character: This Week....STARSCREAM!" She's just as backstabbing as he is, and better looking....Any Guesses? YEP! The Baroness! I love the character, and what better way to mix WOMAN> BUILDING> ROBOTS than to due a good ol' fashioned TRANSFORMERS/G.I. JOE Crossover! So I have a rough (EXTREMELY ROUGH) of the premise sketched, but it needs SOMETHING to make it POP. not sure what it is, so I've been STUMPED for a while. As I said before, This project is the HARDEST I've done EVER. So, anyways as a show of good faith, and thanks for sticking in there I'll post this little "ditty" I drew up tonight. I'm still working on the MAIN "Draw a Character: This Week....STARSCREAM!" Project so DON'T WORRY! I haven't COPPED out or threw in the towel YET!!! So....ENJOY!

Draw a Character: This week....Starscream!! (Sketches)

Alright, here are the SKETCHES I promised a few days ago. I know I SUCK at deadlines, but HEY that's what this is for, for me to learn how to put the nose to the grindstone (just never understood WHERE that saying came from!) And get it done! So, I am so INTIMIDATED by this project I THINK I may have bitten off more than I can CHEW. I WILL PRESS ON! I will make SOMETHING it may be horrible but I WILL make what I promised! So hope you can get the jist of what's been the most difficult task I had to do in my drawing development....

FIRST I had to come up with MY OWN take on the Backstabbing Right hand Man. STILL not satisfied, but I'll just pick a version and keep it moving....more later.....

Hey all,
Thanks for sticking with the blog, I have things in the works for you all. I have picked my Subject for the next "Draw A Character: This Week...." So On Thursday I will start it up, I have chosen (with some help from the fellas at the Fantasy Shop) STARSCREAM! Now THIS one was a hard choice for me. I have the Male anatomy pretty well taken care of (pause), But I don't have a good grasp on The Basics of Perspective and Mecha-style work. So I will be Practicing! In this piece I will incorporate 3 elements I have trouble with....

1. Buildings in perspective with other things like People and Objects
2. Robots
3. Women

Now, I know what you're saying, "Hey Joe, MOST comic artist draw WOMEN REALLY well, why is it YOU don't?"
Well, I'd say SHUT UP! To you. *LOL* Just kidding. I just have grown up drawing superHEROES not HEROINES. Which I plan on rectifying. So, My next Sudject will most likely be Feminine. We'll see WHO jumps out at me, after I finish this one.

ANYWAYS, That's whats going on. So, Thursday I will post the reference sketches and doodles, until I get a definite rough for the scene....Check back later!

A Little surprise...

I have this project I've been working on, and I THINK I FINALLY finished it. It's 1am my back is KILLING me, and the clicking and typing is agitating both my fiance' and son who are BOTH asleep right now. So, I am PROUD to announce my FIRST FULLY-COLORED PIECE! I am Extremely excited and I've never REALLY got this detailed before. Hope you all like it!! This Character was created by a guy named Shelby that works at The Fantasy Shop a Comics and Gaming shop I frequent. Drawing/semi-inks by me initially, and Colors (FINALLY) by me also! This is HIS commission piece. HERE HE IS! Lucius the Battle Elf!

Took about 3 days....I REALLY like doing this. It's TEDIOUS AS ALL GET OUT, but I had fun!
Hopefully next week I'll be back to my "Draw A Character: This Week...." So Have a GOOD NIGHT!!

Yeah, yeah I know!

So, in light of the recent move from our old Apt. to our NEW place (closer to my favorite comic book shop I might add!)  I am not able to complete a "Draw A Character: This Week..." I know it's sounds like a cop out, but With a full-time job, Full time Fiance', Full-time son, and boxes full of crap from here to the ceiling, I can't find time to start it up. We are still getting left-over stuff from the old place. And NOW, we have less time than expected to vacate the old place. ANYWAYZ. See you NEXT week hopefully! I am also working on acquiring INTERNET access at home now that we've moved. I'm sending THIS post from work. (Shhh! Don't tell my boss!)

The Finished Drawing!!! KRATOS!!!

Alright! I'm finally finished drawing! *Applause* This is the final drawing of the God of War Main Man: Kratos. It took a lot of time, and a lot of arguing with my fiance' but I got it done. I'm sure she'll tell you that it is good to FINALLY be done with it. Well, hope you like...OH! and I also including more....POST-IT SKETCHES!!!!AAARRRGH!!!*LOL* Next week: ??? (You'll SEE!)

I've never drawn anything this big and detailed. (I know I'm a wuss! *LOL*) But I will be tackling more things like this (and hopefully more difficult ones) and just start building the foundation of a cool artist.... Thanks for being patient! After I get enough done, I'll start learning (relearning) the inking stages, then maybe even move on to coloring some of them. But that's down the road. So for now....

Draw a Character: This week....KRATOS!!

Hey, My Fiance' LOVES God of War (trilogy). So, in honor of her Bloodthirsty hunger for all things Spartan an Violent, I have decided to "Draw a Character" Each week. This week is of course KRATOS the Greek God Killer! Yeah, he's cool, and pretty simple enough to draw, but it's getting the RIGHT scene. Soemthing that's going to capture the ESSENCE of the character. I'm going to TRY and draw a Different Character each week, and try to get them in a SCENE (I need practice on background scenery), So HOPEFULLY I don't cop out and do a one shot posey style pic of anyone....So, ON TO KRATOS...These are the first sketches I came up with. I did these yesterday. I love having a WHOLE day to just draw, PLUS I bought new art supplies which ALWAYS gets me in the mood for drawing....So, without further delay.....

Defining my style on the character....yeah I think I've finally started developing one, although it's still needs work.....

Ok, THIS is the scene I went with. Kratos climbing out of hell after he's been sent there for the UMPTEENTH time and the arms of tortured souls grabbing and clawing at him *LOL*.... I'll be drawing this on Bristol Board and adding as much background detail as I can to make sure I get the practice... Well, That's all for now. Hopefully by Sunday i'll be done, and ready to start another character (maybe female? Who knows! I've always had trouble drawing Hot heriones! Time to GET'ER DONE!)

Post-It Note Sketches!

I've been SO busy lately...Ok, ok, I've been lazy. I haven't had a really good inspiration to draw lately, BUT I have been practicing in photoshop painting...This is very crude, and I'm still getting the hang of it. ALSO I have POST-IT SKETCHES! I'll be putting these up almost every few days. If I can't do ANYTHING I can AT LEAST sketch something in between customers at work! *LOL*

Hey whoever is reading this (or is it WHOMever? Anyways) Who or Whom ever may be checking out the site, Welcome back. I know I haven't posted anything in a little bit, and I Humbly Apologize (especially to those few who ACTUALLY come here often!) So here are a few projects I've worked on over the last few years.......

This is most recent. Thanks to Shelby at the Fantasy Shop For the Awesome Character. It was REALLY cool and Fun to draw. I'm trying to learn more about referencing material to make the characters come to life more. I am still a bit too "2D", but with some time and maybe a tutorial or two (or ten) I'll be making my own comics soon.
